Alanis Morisette's Top 5 Songs

Welcome to another Top 5 Tuesday! I will be premiering Top 5 Tuesdays first Honerable Mention! Here is a little about Alanis Morisette: From 1991-1993, Alanis Morisette was a popular Canadian music artist (with six top 40 hits in Canada). She then claimed international success when she moved to L.A and created her third album, Jagged Little Pill. It then became one of the best-selling albums of all time (33 million sales). Her following albums met with less success, with each album getting less sales than the one before. While most of the songs on thelist are songs from Jagged Little Pill, they are nevertheless my favorite songs by Alanis Morisette.

This is the blogs first honerable mention!
HM: Too Hot

This was Alanis' first single ever and peaked at #14 in Canada (it was only released in that country)! This is very upbeat compared to the rest of her songs and is very 80's, which isn't like Alanis Morisette's later work.

5. You Learn

Released as the fourth single from her world famous album, Jagged Little Pill, "You Learn" peaked at #6 on the Hot 100. This song has a very unique bridge and is a masterpiece full of belting. Unfortunately, its ending is very dissatisfying and the chorus isn't nearly as catchy as "Hand In My Pocket" or "You Oughta Know"

4. Hand In My Pocket

As another Jagged Little Pill song, it is very catchy. Alanis' voice is far from perfect in this song, but this adds to the song (like Adele's "Someone Like You"). The harmonica in this song makes it unique, as that's unheard of in a pop song.

3. Ironic

This song is full of irony (technically it isn't) about how life is ironic and anything can happen. My favorite part of the song is when she says "Isn't it ironic? Don't ya think?" and then heads into the chorus. It is Alanis' best charting song(and best video), as it peaked at #4. And yes, it is yet another song from that same album (I dont need to say it again... do I?).

 2. Thank U

It stands alone on this list, as it is the only song that isn't from Jagged Little Pill. As the debut single for her second album, Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie, it peaked at #17. The combination of synthesizers and guitars makes this song stand-out, but some of the unusual lyrics ("thank you India, thank you Providence") prevents it from hitting the #1 spot on this list.

1. You Oughta Know
"You Oughta Know" is a song full of anger. I get chills whenever I hear the song as the anger demonstrated in the song is so real! As the first single to be released in the US, it was commercially successful, as it peaked at #6 on the Hot 100.
Thanks for reading!

To end the post on a happy note, here is some humor from Alanis Morisette: a ballad/cover/parody of The Black Eyed Peas song, "My Humps".
